Executive Mayor, City of Tshwane

Tshwane’s unqualified audit opinion reflects our commitment to clean governance.

The City of Tshwane has taken note of the Auditor-General report on the 2019/2020 financial year audit outcomes for municipalities across the country.

As Executive Mayor of Tshwane, I am pleased to note that we received an unqualified audit opinion from the Auditor-General for the 2019/2020 financial year.

Earlier this week our Finance MMC Mare-Lise Fourie issued a communique on the City’s Auditor-General’s report, stating that an unqualified audit opinion indicates that Tshwane’s financial statements are fairly and appropriately presented in all material respects for the year under review.

This means that Tshwane is operating in compliance with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA).

As the current administration we welcome the unqualified audit opinion, and we believe that it is a reflection of the current administration’s commitment to clean governance.

Going forward into the new financial year 2021/2022 the City will continue to apply stringent financial management, cost-cutting measures, and fiscal discipline.

While the City is facing financial challenges due to the illegal tenure by the administrators that were in office for the majority of 2020, | would like to once again reassure our residents that our administration is working towards stabilising City finances and driving quality service delivery.

Despite these challenges we will ensure that Tshwane continues to function optimally with the aim of delivering on all our projects. Our 2021/2022 budget that was recently passed by Council is a core tool to drive the City’s financial recovery while prioritizing core service delivery.
