Twelve people were arrested during the Easter weekend, bringing to 79 the number of arrests in six months.

Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga established the anti-cable theft unit in October last year.

His spokesperson Sam Mgobozi says the city will not tolerate cable theft.

“Instead of just always replacing infrastructure and getting it stolen, we decided to deal with systemic issues. We’ve got very old infrastructure that needs replacing.”
