đź’‰ Shutting down the economy to cover for vaccine failures adds insult to injury

South Africa’s vaccine programme has been a disgraceful, unforgivable failure so far. Secretive. Slow. Disorganised. Fatal.

A full 15 months into the pandemic less than 1% of South Africans have been fully vaccinated.

🥇 Auditor General report on municipal audit outcomes confirms the DA gets things done

DA-run municipalities in the Western Cape and Midvaal, remain the best run in the country. Instead of the ANC’s stale rhetoric of racial division, our citizens are realizing that the DA gets things done when it comes to the delivery of jobs and better services for all.

FINDINGS FOR THE WESTERN CAPE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT

“We commend the province on maintaining the trend of achieving a high number of clean audit outcomes in 2019-20. This was achieved during a troubled 2020 with disruptions to normal operations, by leadership setting a strong tone at the top to maintain a sound control environment – particularly effective preventative controls … It is encouraging that every auditee in the province submitted their annual financial statements on time for auditing, without requiring any material corrections thereto. This is a reflection of the institutionalised controls over the financial statements preparation processes. The financial health of the province showed that the principles of budget and expenditure management were sound and able to prevent any unauthorised expenditure and limit fruitless and wasteful expenditure – putting auditees in a position to surrender surplus voted funds back to the provincial revenue fund.”

FINDINGS FOR GAUTENG

“Compliance outcomes remained stagnant with material non-compliance reported at 68% of the auditees. Non-compliance with supply chain prescripts remained a concern, with the resultant irregular expenditure increasing to R7,49 billion, with a closing balance of R36,6 billion. The main contributors to the irregular expenditure were the Gauteng departments of Health, Roads and Transport, Education, Human Settlements and e-Government – which accounted for 92% of the incurred irregular expenditure, due to non-adherence to standardised procurement processes.”

🏡 Ramaphosa misled the country on state custodianship of land

The DA again rejected the ANC and EFF’s ongoing attempt to nationalise land by stealth after President Ramaphosa and his ANC comrades in the Section 25 Ad-hoc Committee formally included state custodianship as part of their new proposal to the amendment.

⚖️ ANC/EFF coalition plans for a settlement on state custodianship of land oversteps the mandate of the Section 25 Ad-Hoc Committee

The DA highlighted how plans by the ANC and EFF to reach a bilateral agreement, outside the purview of Parliament, on expropriating land without compensation reveal the extent to which they will go to violate our Constitution and go beyond the Section 25 committee’s original mandate.
