The scandal-ridden National Lotteries Commission is in a crisis. Today, the DA has written to the Speaker of the National Assembly to request a debate of national importance following more revelations of alleged corrupt dealings.
The DA is calling for the suspension of the National Police Commissioner General Khehla Sitole pending the outcome of an investigation. General Sitole, and other high-ranking SAPS officials, reportedly tried to buy an electronic device capable of intercepting phone calls and cellphone messages, also known as a grabber, for R45 million ahead of the 2017 ANC conference at Nasrec allegedly in order to influence voting.
The DA welcomes the announcement by the Minister of Home Affairs that the re-issue of identity documents, solemnisation and registration of marriages, amendment and rectification of documents, late birth registrations and application and collection of passports will resume today 4 March 2021.
The DA notes the announcement by the State Security Minister, Ayanda Dlodlo to launch an investigation into allegations that the State Security Agency allegedly bribed members of the Judiciary to sway judgments in favour of the politically connected. An investigation is necessary, but the Department does not have the credibility to conduct an independent, fair and transparent probe.
