Four Centurion ward councillors have been honoured for their outstanding performance as part of various Tshwane metro oversight committees.

Kingsley Wakelin, Ina Strijdom, Marika Kruger-Muller and Peter Sutton received their awards during the local DA’s year-end function on 31 May.

Awards were presented to councillors who served on the committees overseeing various portfolios within the metro.

Wakelin, who was awarded for his outstanding contributions to the municipal public accounts committee, said he was very grateful for the award.

“We serve along with between nine and 12 others on the committees, so to be singled out is really special,” he said.

“It is great to see that the work you put in during the year is being acknowledged.”

Kruger-Muller said she hoped their achievement would motivate others to work harder.

She received a certificate for her work as part of the agricultural and environmental portfolio.

“I am very proud to have received the award,” Kruger-Muller said.

“I wasn’t expecting it but it is great to know that we are making a difference.”

Strijdom said she was also not expecting her award for contributions to the community safety portfolio.

“They actually had to call my name twice before I responded,” she said.

“We are a great team on the committee so I was surprised when they called my name. I am very honoured to receive the award.”

Sutton received the best-developed chairperson’s award.
