City manager to be appointed for next year

The Tshwane metro will be without a permanent manager at least until early next year.

Mayor Solly Msimanga has extended the contract of the acting manager Lindiwe Kwele to 31 March.

Msimanga hinted that the city was still undecided on who would permanently replace Jason Ngobeni who left the post in August.

“This, ladies and gentlemen, is for the purposes of not rushing to permanent appointment of this critical position which is vital for the change we need to bring to this city while still maintaining the stability the city needs,” said Msimanga.

The mayor further said the city’s leadership had still not reached consensus on the appointment for the manager, who earned over R3 million a year.

“Appreciating the importance of such an appointment and the interests of good governance we are duty-bound to satisfy ourselves beyond a shadow of a doubt that all candidates, their CVs, interviews and experience are properly interrogated and considered. This is for the sole purpose of ensuring that no mistakes are made,” added Msimanga.
